So, I just met with a fabulous couple who is having their wedding at Heritage Prairie Farm in 2016, exactly one year and 10 months from now. I would say 80% of my couples will book me to photograph their day at least 10 months in advance. Kristen and Kevin contacted me on August 3rd (of this year). That was less than three weeks before their wedding. They happened to be having a Friday wedding so, LUCKY FOR ME, I was available. I just couldn’t stop gushing about this amazing, vintage, chic wedding when I got home to my poor husband who has definitely had his lifetime supply of wedding talk. He’s so sweet, though. He knows I love my job and I get super-excited about beautiful weddings.
The details were simple and elegant with just the right amount of everything needed to make a memorable event. It is tradition on her Mom’s side of the family to make a homemade carrot cake for the wedding (yum). Kristen and her family put together the flowers themselves. The yellow teddy bear sunflowers were something I’d really never seen in real life before. What a treat. The colors were kelly green, navy blue, and ivory. Check out her amazing gown and overlay (swoon). She had decided on the main flower as a sunflower. Kristen said “It was the first bouquet Kevin gave me to bring some sunshine to my day while I was studying for finals”.
And finally, the location was breathtaking. The forecast called for showers most of the day, but it was a perfect summer evening at Heritage Prairie Farm in Elburn, Illinois. The couple was married outside by the arch where guests enjoyed the vows overlooking fields of corn and garden greens. The giant oak tree and hanging swing made for the perfect backdrop. Funny Note: The ring bearers actually lost the rings while walking down the aisle and the HP staff all banded together and made a great team as they quietly and inconspicuously hunted and found the rings. Whew!! That was a close one.
Did anyone else notice the big, yellow school bus go by during the ceremony? It perfectly matched the color scheme as it barreled down the dirt road. Did you plan that, Kristin??? 🙂

Laura MLove the way the simple elegance of this wedding was captured. Obviously, no elaborate glitz or glam was needed to make this a beautiful, memorable day. Love the color scheme, absolutely love the yellow color—brilliant picture of the rings on the yellow flower pods. Stunning!
