Jared and Courtney are getting married this weekend and as I thought about their beautiful ideas for their June wedding, it reminded me of the equally beautiful but completely opposite engagement session I photographed with them back in December. Also, I just love looking at snow sessions in the middle of summer. It’s, well….. refreshing. I must admit one of my favorite kinds of weddings to photograph are backyard weddings. There’s something about the intimacy and closeness the guests feel with the couple when they are invited to share their wedding vows in their back yard where they grew up. It’s magical for sure.
Courtney wanted her engagement session to be in her back yard where they also plan to be married. We got lucky with a fresh snow the day before, so the backdrop was pretty and white. We walked around the property and they shared with me memories of their childhood and we even took some unplanned images with her horse. Can’t wait to photograph their beautiful backyard wedding in Batavia coming up very soon.
If you wish to plan an engagement session in the snow in the Midwest, plan on being flexible. I tell my couples, if it snows, call me and let’s hope we’re both available. Generally in the winter it works out. Sometimes I’ll even call my clients and be like “Hey, It’s amazing out. Want to do your engagement session today?”. It snows never or always around here and you never know when it will happen. Anywhere between October and April are possibilities. It takes planning, but it’s so worth it. The textures and colors on a snowy day photograph wonderfully. Look for images from their wedding coming soon on our facebook and Instagram pages. I am misselitephoto on Instagram.
